SCA is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of forest-based biofuel.
SCA supplies unrefined fuels such as logging slash (branches and tops from felling), bark, sawdust and peat as well as refined fuel such as pellets and briquettes.
SCA BioNorr is responsible for pellet production at plants in Härnösand and Stugun, Sweden. Customers are private households as well as large and medium-size heat and cogeneration (CHP) plants in Europe.
The market is growing by more than 20% annually and continues to have excellent growth prospects. SCAs market share in Sweden is approximately 10%.
In total, SCA supplies approximately 3 TWh of refined and unrefined biofuels.
The demand for energy and the need to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is resulting in strong political support for renewable energy. Accordingly, the market is projected to grow for both refined and unrefined biofuel, in Sweden as well as Europe. Conditions are favorable for SCA to grow as a supplier of forest-based biofuel.
