SCA Transforest has started intermodal traffic, via train, from the Tunadal port outside Sundsvall. The goods is being transported between Tunadal and Gothenburg, and the shift from road to rail will reduce emissions.
“This is in line with our environmental strategy aiming to cut emissions and shift transports from road to rail. With an intermodal system we can still reap the benefits of trucks since we do not have to reload the goods and we can quickly and flexibly make deliveries to our customers,” says Lars Nolander, terminal manager at SCA Transforest.
SCA collaborates with the Swedish goods logistics companies Green Cargo, Cargonet and ÖTC in the matter.
“This new traffic to the Tunadal port means that we can increase the intermodal train departures from Sundsvall although the terminal in central Sundsvall has almost already reached its maximum capacity. Since we ship directly from the Tunadal port we can also avoid a large number of truck transports to and from the terminal in Sundsvall. This also enhances the railway’s competitive position and limits the volume of heavy traffic in town,” says Tomas Olsson, sales manager at Green Cargo.
