SCA’s Lucca mill in Italy has recently received the FSC Chain of Custody certificate so that all SCA now can offer containerboard from all six mills.
Containerboard is the outer layer (liner) and rippled middle layer (fluting) in corrugated packaging. SCA provides two main categories of containerboard: kraftliner paper based on fresh fibre coming from SCA’s mills in Munksund and Obbola (both in Sweden), and recycled paper based on recovered fibres from SCA’s mills in De Hoop (The Netherlands), Aschaffenburg as well as Witzenhausen (both in Germany) and Lucca (Italy).
SCA’s containerboard business is handled by SCA Containerboard consisting of a network of six manufacturing mills plus a joint-venture in Turkey, six sales offices, 11 points of shipment, a head office in Brussels, Belgium and close cooperation with the SCA R&D Centre.
FSC Chain of Custody
The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification is a further step in responsible fibre sourcing. It tracks FSC certified material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.
It is a system that provides information about where the wood or forest based material come from or does not come from. It requires that the origin of raw materials is identified and that the wood or forest based materials are traceable from one operation to the next including successive stages of processing, transformation and distribution. In the source control certification process, the entire chain from forestry operations to finished product must be documented.
